Roger Frederick was born in La Jolla, California in 1966,
but has spent most of his life in the UK. He grew up in Berkshire,
and now lives in West Wales.
In a varied career, Roger has worked as a journalist, copywriter
and web designer, not to mention stints as a careworker,
a van driver and a blood sample unpacker in a genetic fingerprinting
lab! He currently runs an e-publishing company.
During the
last decade, Roger has written four novels and numerous short
stories, which are published through Interstate
Indie Fiction, the literary equivalent of an indie
music label.
Roger Frederick's latest work Flesh
and Wood (published June 2009) is the story
of a disabled saleswoman who finds a mysterious wooden
hand and other wooden body parts discarded on a beach.
It is set in the remote seaside village of Nant Llwyfen
in the imaginary Welsh county of Cymllynion (across the
'third bridge').
Roger is currently writing a new novel The
Dream Controller. In common with much of his earlier
fiction, the new work is set in Westing,
the central town of Westingshire - another imaginary county
that is a cross between North Somerset, the M4 corridor,
and the Berkshire countryside.
A 700pp collection of Roger's early work 'The Casino
Kid and other stories' was published in 1999.
This featured two novels, the
casino kid and fishing
for angels.
It also included a novella entitled walking
by water and a collection of short stories shorts
and dresses. Full online versions are available for
free on this website.
The website also features the full text of the
shrewdness of apes a novel completed in
2004, and showcases a collection of new short
stories entitled
of lemonade lizards and other
brief trips into post-punk fiction. Initial
print runs of these two titles have now been published by
Interstate Indie Fiction and are available as paperback
originals via the Interstate online shop and Amazon.
